What makes it 87% Kids-Friendly: Children can scoot the sealed path, play at two foreshore playgrounds and spot fish, with toilets and water fountains handy; length may tire under-12s unless you cut the walk or bus back.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows a 4km walk, playground time, breaks and bus return without rushing.
Half-walk and playground break:
Walk 4km from Airlie Beach Lagoon to Cannonvale Parklands.
Tip: Catch the local bus back (AUD 5 adults, AUD 2.50 children) to avoid the return walk.
Scooter or bike ride:
Use the flat, sealed path for scooters or bikes.
Tip: Bring your own or rent locally; helmets are recommended for all riders.
Shingley Beach rock pool exploring:
Stop halfway to explore tidal rocks and spot small fish or crabs.
Tip: Bring water shoes for safe footing on slippery rocks.
Picnic under shade:
Set up at covered tables by the lagoon or parklands picnic shelters.
Tip: Pack snacks or buy takeaway from lagoon cafés and arrive early to secure a spot.
Kids' treat at The Fat Frog Café:
Enjoy ice-cream or fish-and-chips from the kids’ menu.
Tip: Order during afternoon to reward kids after play; expect about AUD 7–10 per child.

We started this boardwalk at the Lagoon and it’s a good 35 mins one way to the end of the path to Cannonvale where you turn around and return. Easy walk. Highly Recommend :-)

You've got wet, rippled sand in the foreground that looks perfect for squelching your toes in, if you don't mind dodging all those dark, scattered rocks. The beach leads back to a rugged shoreline with rolling hills in the distance. The soft, hazy light and pale sky give it a very peaceful, 'I'm-escaping-it-all' kind of vibe.

The coastal trail is very well built, very clean and has many places to rest, I love it here!

Beautiful walkway with lots of things to look at and read on the way from Cannonvale beach to Airlie Lagoon. Sculptures, restaurants, yacht club, stand up paddle boarding, kayaks and tour booking places. It's around 4klm long.

Highly recommended something that everyone can do , at 12 it’s almost empty if you want ti have good pics . This is the time .. just be careful with the scooters . Enjoy!
From Nov–Apr, pack light rainwear and start early to avoid heat and showers. In dry season, bring hats and sunscreen for full-sun sections.
