What makes it 85% Couple-Friendly: Couples can drive to a panoramic lookout, share sunset picnics and quiet woodland walks, yet the closed café and lack of evening lighting mean they must bring food and leave before dark.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Allows time for The Red Track loop, a lookout picnic and wildlife spotting without rushing.
Sunrise or sunset picnic at Red Hill Lookout:
Drive up Red Hill Drive and set up at the summit picnic tables.
Tip: Arrive 30 minutes before for changing light and cooler air.
The Red Track loop walk:
Follow red markers on the 3.2 km loop through grassy woodland.
Tip: Start from Mugga Way car park and wear sturdy shoes for rocky sections.
Wildlife watching:
Spot eastern grey kangaroos grazing and gang-gang cockatoos in the treetops.
Tip: Visit at dawn or dusk with binoculars for the best sightings.
Guided Ngunnawal cultural walk:
Join Living Culture’s 1.5 km Endeavour Fern Gully tour.
Tip: Book ahead and budget AUD 30–40 per person; bring water and sturdy shoes.

Breathtaking view of south Canberra. It's free and no advanced booking needed unless you plan to visit the cafe/restaurant on top of Red Hill. It's one of many gems in Canberra and fully accessible by hiking, cycling or driving. Highly recommended.

Incredibly beautiful walk/hike. Highly recommend. You don’t need to be experienced to walk this track at all, it is very clear and easy. Would’ve been 5 stars however the parking situation is very unclear. Google Maps takes you to a dirt track that is not ideal for parking or driving at all, during our walk we found out that there is a legitimate carpark however the map did not take me there.

Beautiful place for visit. With family its best to go early morning or sunset. There is plenty of parking available near redhill cafe which is closed at moment. Public toilet is behind the cafe area. Davidson Hill Trigonometrical Station look out is a must go place to see canberra and surrounding but not suitable for old people or who has problem in walking because its around 500mts from car par...
Spring (Sep–Nov) brings wildflowers along The Red Track. Summer mornings stay cooler and wildlife is active. In winter, pack a windbreaker for clear hilltop views.
