A baby in a carrier can enjoy lookout picnics next to the parking area, but rough paths block strollers and there are no diaper-change rooms, shade shelters or tap water, so visits must be short and well prepared.
Note: Black Mountain Nature Reserve is 45% Baby-Friendly. You may want to consider other Baby-Friendly Things to Do in Canberra for a more suitable experience.
Why 3–4 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Allows time for short walks, a picnic and baby breaks without rushing
Lookout at Halfway Car Park:
Enjoy panoramic views of Canberra from the scenic picnic area near the halfway parking spot.
Tip: Use a baby carrier to keep hands free and stay on the clear viewing platform.
Quiet Picnic by the Tables:
Set up a baby mat at the picnic tables next to the car park for an easy snack stop.
Tip: Bring lightweight, spill-proof containers and a sunshade for the baby.
Visit Black Mountain Peninsula Park:
Drive 5 minutes to this nearby park for paved paths, a playground and lake views.
Tip: Pack a stroller here and let the baby enjoy a gentle push by the water.
Spring brings wildflowers along trails; summer mornings are cooler for a picnic; autumn offers crisp air and fewer flies.

Absolutely beautiful view from the top of Black Mountain with a great, steep walk up with plenty of things to look at, like the kangaroos, views and getting closer to the top of the mountain. Definitely one of the best nature reserves in Canberra, Telstra Tower is unfortunately closed but the view makes it worth it for me.

Unfortunately the tower is closed so the view is not what it used to be. There are a couple of lookouts just before the top that provide a partial view of the city.

Wish the tower was open. No real views since you can't go higher than the trees. Telstra really needs to do the renovations on the tower so us tourists can view that wonderful scenery again.
