How Baby-Friendly is Black Mountain Nature Reserve?

45%Baby-Friendly
View Map

A baby in a carrier can enjoy lookout picnics next to the parking area, but rough paths block strollers and there are no diaper-change rooms, shade shelters or tap water, so visits must be short and well prepared.

Google
Reviews4.4/ 5
(from 2,126 reviews)

Positives:

  • Free Entry and Parking: No fees and ample parking at the lookout car park.
  • Quiet Atmosphere: Fewer visitors let you set your own pace with a baby.

Challenges:

  • Uneven Trails: Most paths have rocks and roots, so strollers won’t work.
  • Limited Shade: Picnic area has partial cover; bring sun protection.

Absolutely beautiful view from the top of Black Mountain with a great, steep walk up with plenty of things to look at, like the kangaroos, views and getting closer to the top of the mountain. Definitely one of the best nature reserves in Canberra, Telstra Tower is unfortunately closed but the view makes it worth it for me.

Unfortunately the tower is closed so the view is not what it used to be. There are a couple of lookouts just before the top that provide a partial view of the city.

Wish the tower was open. No real views since you can't go higher than the trees. Telstra really needs to do the renovations on the tower so us tourists can view that wonderful scenery again.
