What makes it 91% Kids-Friendly: Kids get a shaded nature playground, shallow bay wading, crab hunts and free BBQ areas; parents must supervise closely at the shoreline and watch tide times, but lifeguards patrol peak periods.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Kids can enjoy the playground, sandbar walk and a picnic without getting tired.
Nature-Play Playground:
Under Moreton Bay fig trees, kids can climb, swing and explore rope bridges and slides.
Tip: Go early to find free parking and beat the heat under shade cloth.
King Island Sandbar Walk:
Walk the 2 km return causeway at low tide and discover shells and small crabs on the flats.
Tip: Check local tide charts; aim for the 3 hr window around low tide.
Crab Hunting & Sand Play:
Kids chase blue soldier crabs in shallow water and build sandcastles on firm sand.
Tip: Bring small buckets and nets; wear water shoes to protect feet.
Family BBQ & Picnic:
Use free gas barbecues and picnic tables near the jetty for a water-view meal.
Tip: Pick up fresh fish ’n’ chips or sandwiches from Wellington Point Village beforehand.
Family Kayak Rental:
Rent tandem kayaks or paddleboats for a gentle paddle in sheltered bay waters.
Tip: Book rentals early on weekends; wear life jackets provided by hire shop.
Birdwatching & Wildlife Spotting:
Spot egrets, oystercatchers and other shorebirds along the intertidal flats.
Tip: Visit at sunrise or late afternoon for best chances of sightings.

Lovely and entertaining, especially when the kite surfers are out there surfing across the sand bar. They have one the most beautiful places to watch the sunset

Wellington Point Recreation Reserve was beautiful, but unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to walk out to King Island like Moses. I could only admire it from afar this time. Hopefully, I’ll get the opportunity to make that walk and explore King Island up close in the future!

Stunning! We went during the week and kids were back at school so it was quiet. Fantastic area for kids, great park, loads of shade under the trees - which are absolutely stunning. We walked out to the island during low tide. Highly recommend doing it. It’s a great experience.

The park has BBQ areas, picnic spots, and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for families, couples, or anyone w...

It’s the perfect spot to relax, especially during low tide when you can walk out to King Island – such a cool experience. The water is calm and great for a casual swim or just dipping your feet in. We grabbed some snacks, had a little picnic, and watched the sun go down – the sunset views here are honest...
In summer, avoid midday sun by using the shaded playground and picnic shelters. In winter, temperatures are mild but dress in layers and check for cool winds. Tide times vary daily; consult online tide charts before planning the sandbar walk.
