What makes it 79% Couple-Friendly: Couples can picnic under shelters, wander beside river red gums and public art, and take quiet photos of waterbirds, yet the absence of an on-site café shortens a full-day date.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: This gives time to stroll the creek trail, enjoy art installations and relax with a picnic.
Christies Creek Walk & Art Trail:
Follow the 7 km Christies Creek Linear Trail past ancient River Red Gums and public artworks.
Tip: Start at the Wheatsheaf Road car park to loop the main art installations in 1.5-2 hours.
Creekside Picnic:
Use shaded shelters and BBQ grills beside the creek for a private outdoor meal.
Tip: Pack a picnic and blanket. Arrive before noon to secure a sheltered spot.
Birdwatching & Photography:
Spot rainbow lorikeets, New Holland honeyeaters and waterbirds along the creek banks.
Tip: Bring binoculars and go at dawn when bird activity peaks.
Check Community Events:
Attend free ‘Trucks on Tour’ or miniature train rides on selected dates.
Tip: Visit the City of Onkaparinga website to confirm upcoming event dates.

Wonderful large grass reserve where dog obedience classes are held. A good place to let your dog have a run around off lead in quiet times. However, it sits between States & Wheatsheaf Rds, which can be quite busy at certain times of the day, so keep that in mind.

We went here for my great nephew's 3rd birthday. It is a perfect place. The trains are wonderful. Adults and children both adored it. We were able to get a table to set up food and 🎂. Wow! Such an amazing place for a day out/picnic! There is lots of space here and even tiny steam trains that you can take a ride on. Plenty of play area for kids in the park and there's also an obstacle course for your dog. Yep, this place is dog friendly too. Plenty of parking spots available and toilet facilities too.
In summer, visit early to avoid the heat. In spring, look for blooming wildflowers and migratory birds.
