What makes it 91% Kids-Friendly: Children up to 12 enjoy fenced adventure playgrounds, heritage carousel, mini steam train and safe paddling; toilets and barbecue shelters aid parents, though ride tickets add cost.
Why 3–4 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for playground fun, carousel rides, a train trip, beach play and a picnic without rushing.
Adventure playground:
Let the kids climb, slide and explore in the fully fenced, undercover playground next to the kiosk.
Tip: Visit when it’s less busy by arriving early or after lunch; bring spare clothes.
Historic carousel ride:
Ride the hand-carved wooden horses on the heritage carousel as the lights come on.
Tip: Buy tokens at the kiosk in advance; rides cost AUD 6 per person.
Mini steam train to Fort Glanville:
Take the cute ‘Bill’ steam train on a 2 km return trip past dunes to Fort Glanville.
Tip: Check the train schedule online and arrive 15 minutes before departure.
Beach play:
Build sandcastles, fly kites or splash in the gentle waves on soft white sand.
Tip: Pack buckets, spades and sun protection; bring a small beach umbrella.
Kiosk snacks and ice-cream:
Enjoy fresh fish’n’chips, burgers or milkshakes from the beachside kiosk.
Tip: Order early at peak times to avoid queues; ice-cream starts at AUD 4.

Walked the Esplanade while on holiday here. Easy walking, plenty of cyclists, walkers and runners using the path. Tide was out atvthe beach and still only spring and a week day, but plenty of parking and I expect it would get busy on a nice day

Beautiful beach has in my eyes best in the World. White sand. Best beach walk stretch to Grange. Wheelchair friendly paths sprawled along the way. Shady trees and lawn. The Palais for a coffee break or brunch stop or dinner.

Love this spot — ocean views and old buildings side by side. Cafés and supermarkets are super close, but parking’s packed on sunny weekends.

I love this beach - it's huge and full of character. There is plenty of parking around as well as toilets and children's play area. It's a great beach to take long walks on and explore the creatures in the shallows and on the rocks. Semaphore itself also has lots on offer - especially if you're an ice-cream lover. The photos are from my visit to the Kite Festival two days ago.
Summer (Dec–Jan) hosts a pop-up carnival with dodgems and games. In winter, the foreshore can be windy—bring a windbreaker.
