What makes it 74% Kids-Friendly: Children can watch lion dances, taste dumplings and explore Central Market stalls next door, but there is no playground or interactive museum, and heavy festival crowds need supervision.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to stroll the archways, sample street food, and explore the market without rushing young children.
Paifang Archways Photo Stop:
Walk under the twin Chinese gates on Moonta Street and find the stone guardian lions.
Tip: Visit early morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer people.
Family Feast at Chinatown Plaza:
Share dishes at communal pagoda tables surrounded by live music.
Tip: Try dumplings and bubble tea; order several share plates so kids can taste different flavors.
Explore Adelaide Central Market:
Browse colourful stalls and let kids sample fresh fruits and snacks.
Tip: Use the pram parking area in the Parents’ Room if you bring a stroller.
Join Lunar New Year Street Party:
Watch lion and dragon dances, fireworks, and enjoy a kiddie activity zone each February.
Tip: Arrive before 5 pm to secure a good view of performances.

I visited Adelaide’s China Town yesterday with friends. We sat outside one of the venues. Ordered inside, with it served to us. Our meals were okay. Not the best we have had but I give mine 7/10. A small venue. We went to the first one with available outside table/ chairs.if I were to go to China town again, I’d be more selective, aiming for something with more meat and vegetables, where as this w...

Chinatown is a small street between Gouger and Grote Streets next to the Central Market. I visited on a Sunday and it was pretty quiet. There are only eateries around as far as I could tell with even more Chinese restaurants located in the surrounding streets. This Chinatown is insignificant when compared to Sydney and Melbourne. However, if there was an event happening I'm sure that there would ...

There are no shops open as we arrived just past 9am in Chinatown. The only shop was opened is the Bread shop at the front. Later in the day we returned to Chinatown and found a lot of interesting shops and market. Highly recommended the Central Market which has different varieties of food and cafe. We loved the Portuguese custard tarts shop and it tasted very authentic.

A nice surprise to spot the Chinatown right in the CBD of Adelaide. Signature gates at both ends. It’s clean, full of character. A awesome place for enjoying Chinese food and culture.

Parking here can be a bit difficult since it's in the city center, but it's right next to the Central Market, so you can easily v...
Visit in February for free Lunar New Year events with vibrant street shows. In October–November, look for the OzAsia Moon Lantern Trail with daytime puppetry and light displays along Moonta Street.
