What makes it 94% Kids-Friendly: The Lion’s Den studio, free craft packs and school-holiday workshops keep 3-12s busy; lifts, lockers and high-chair café tables aid parents, but some fragile displays need close supervision.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for main galleries, The Lion’s Den family space, and a café break without rushing the kids.
The Lion’s Den Family Gallery:
Interactive space with soft seating, art-making stations, and sensory play.
Tip: Drop in anytime; pick up free activity packs from the Information Desk.
Explorer Toolbelts Family Trail:
Self-guided trail with toolbelts to spot shapes and colours in artworks.
Tip: Download the Bloomberg Connects guide before visiting and collect belts at the desk.
Pre-Raphaelite and Turner Highlights:
Spot vivid Pre-Raphaelite paintings and Turner's landscape scenes.
Tip: Ask kids to choose their favourite scene and explain why to spark discussion.
Holiday Art Workshops:
Free sessions like weaving or drawing during school holidays.
Tip: Check the gallery website for dates and arrive early to secure spots.
During school holidays, join Creative Families drop-in sessions and half-term art workshops in The Lion’s Den; check online for exact dates.

Such a great gallery, I highly recommend coming along, like many galleries and museums in this country it is free! The interior design in some parts is as impressive as the excellent artwork on display! Lovely place, definitely go!

So much historic and cultural art pieces you can spend hours on end getting captivated/inspired. I would recommend arriving early enough to enjoy all the galleries. We arrived at 3pm and it wasn't enough time (closes at 5pm on Saturday) to enjoy the full gallery experience, luckily its free entry so we will likely return.

We found the museum very welcoming!! Happened upon the museum and their FREE TOUR at 3 pm, we couldn’t be happier! I recommend a visit with a tour, you’ll dedicate an hour and see the museum highlights while learning so much more!! The lil cafe was cute and a good place to stop as well.
