How Kids-Friendly is The Edinburgh Dungeon?

50%Kids-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 50% Kids-Friendly: Children 8–12 may enter and love the interactive history, yet loud effects, darkness and a 140 cm height rule for the ride plus no strollers or cloakroom mean many families cut the visit short.

Reviews4.5/ 5
(from 6,416 reviews)

Positives:

  • Immersive learning: Actors bring Scottish history to life and keep kids engaged.
  • Short duration: The 70-minute tour plus extras fits well into a busy family day.

Challenges:

  • Entry age: Under-5s are not admitted and all children 5–15 must stay with an adult.
  • Scary content: Some dark scenes and drops may upset children under 8; prepare them first.
  • No storage: There are no lockers; carry strollers and large bags or use Waverley Station lockers.

We visited as a couple on Monday morning and it was pretty fun. We payed 15€ per person when booking online. It's a cute hounted house, every room you visit has a designated theme and amazing actors. However, be prepared to talk because the show is very interactive and almost all of us participated in the show in some way. It was way funnier than it was scary, but that's what we expected, so it ...

Brilliant fun was had by all. Mixture of ages from age 11 to over 50. Very interactive, don't sit at the front if you don't want to get picked on 🤣. Our group was quite a few times but fun nevertheless. Rides weren't working when we visited unfortunately. They take a photo of your group at the beginning with props and you can view at the end with your choice of backgrounds with a printed picture ...

On my first visit to Edinburgh, I decided to give this a try. I went into the Edinburgh Dungeon as a solo, not knowing much about it. They add you to a group that will go through the dungeon together, experiencing a story along the way. You'll get lots of laughs even as a solo, but with others, this will be an even better experience. I recommend this for solos/duos and groups of people. All the ...

We've been to so many dungeons now and we're so excited to add Edinburgh to the list! Not many photos because you're not allowed to snap pics but it was fab. The acting was great, the props fantastic, some cool jump scares, and it felt like we'd walked for miles. The gift shop had some unique bits in there as well. Would definitely say add it to your dungeon experience
