How Kids-Friendly is Damnoen Saduak Floating Market?

Kids like fruit tasting, straw-hat shopping and short boat jams, yet reliable child-size life jackets are uncertain, walkways lack railings, and only a few basic paid toilets serve the entire market.

Considerations for visiting Damnoen Saduak Floating Market (with kids)

Positives:

  • Cultural immersion: Children watch vendors paddle fresh produce and learn about traditional market life.
  • Interactive fun: Kids can hand money to sellers and feed fish from the boat.

Challenges:

  • Crowded pathways: Narrow wooden walkways fill quickly, making stroller use and navigation tricky.
  • Limited restrooms: Basic toilets cost ~20 THB each. No changing tables or private nursing rooms.

Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for a boat ride, snack tasting, and browsing stalls without rushing.

Damnoen Saduak is part tourist trap (beads scheme, petting pet monkey for Baht), but also a very cool and efficient tourist location. Everything runs like clockwork — from the boat queues to the vendors perfectly positioned to upsell mango sticky rice mid-paddle. People complain about the prices, but honestly, if you’re visiting on holiday and the Baht isn’t exactly crushing your home currency… w...

Our visit to the Floating Market began around 1:00 PM, where we promptly secured two boats for 2500 baht, eager to immerse ourselves in the unique atmosphere. We came primarily for the cultural experience, understanding that the prices for goods here tend to be higher than elsewhere. A crucial tip for any visitor: engage in spirited bargaining until you reach a price you're comfortable with. Regar...

In my opinion this was my first experience in something like this the truth was a lot of fun the fact of going in a boat and going to markets in which if you wanted you could stop, although honestly the prices were overpriced in food and also in accessories or memories. we paid 3k vats and although it seems expensive to me it was worth it approximately 3/4 hours in total and they gave us a complet...

It was a pleasant tourist experience to try once. Some of the vendors are very pleasant. We enjoyed the one hour boat tour which was THB1000 for five people. The goods being sold were repetitive, cheap (but overpriced) mass-produced trinkets. It’s not a true crafts market with homemade products. Some vendors claimed to have homemade wares. It was a bit disappointing, if I’m honest. However, the co...

This is a great place to visit if you're interested in seeing a floating market. While these markets have largely shifted from their original purpose to cater to tourists, it's still fun to take a small cruise on the canals. So if you are passing near then it is worth stopping otherwise don't waste your time. In my opinion, it's even better if you avoid using a long tail boat.
