How Solo-Friendly is Blue House?

A timed 90-minute guided route with free multilingual audio suits independent travelers, and quiet grounds give ample photo chances, but reservation rules limit spontaneous drop-ins.

Considerations for visiting Blue House (solo trip)

Positives:

  • Free Entry: All tours and exhibitions are complimentary for foreigners with a reservation.
  • Audio Guide: Multilingual audio guides deepen your solo experience at no extra cost.

Challenges:

  • Reservation Required: Most tour slots fill weeks in advance; online booking needs Korean phone verification.
  • Fixed Schedules: You must join tours at set times; no unguided access on the main grounds.

Recommended visit duration: 1-2 hours

Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: A 90-minute guided tour plus time in the gardens covers main sights without rushing.

The very beautiful former (& likely future) Presidential Palace. Highly recommended... before it's closed to the public again.

We arrived about forty minutes before closing. There was no line and the tickets were free. It was a very good experience.

The blue house is definitely worth a visit. It’s nice to see where diplomatic meetings are held along with the presidential residence although it is not being used by the president. I was informed that at some point they will not allow the public to visit anymore so make sure to go while it is still open to visitors!

Beautiful space. Downside we’re the tourist who blocked others from being able to take pictures by the staircase

As with most things in Seoul Korea, put on your walking shoes to enjoy this lovely historical site. Frankly, it should have been called teal house but Blue House sounds cooler. Amazing architecture 100% recommend.
