Positives:

  • On-mountain childcare: Skiwiland program cares for 3–5-year-olds so adults can ski with older kids.
  • Family-friendly facilities: Changing tables, lockers and free Wi-Fi in the base lodge ease family logistics.

Challenges:

  • Variable weather: Snow and sun can change fast; pack layers, goggles and sunscreen.
  • Early spring slush: Late season snow melts by midday; ski morning for firmer conditions.
  • Peak-time queues: Weekends get busy; arrive before lifts open to shorten wait times.

Nice ski area with great views and a relaxed atmosphere. We visited in late July and barely had to wait for the chairlifts, which was a pleasant surprise. Some areas had limited snow coverage, though, so take care on the slopes. Overall, a fun experience even in the off-season!

Beautiful slopes with great variety, also some amazing food at reasonable slopes prices. Our instructor (Luis Miguel) was absolutely amazing and did great with patience and explaining how to do things in an engaging and understandable way. I can say my skiing improved greatly after being with him. Highly recommend him to teach lessons.

What a lovely place to ski! Very efficient shuttle system and zero hassle. Big ups to Max (our instructor) who was very passionate about skiing and very skilled at teaching adults, including explaining the Newtonian mechanics of how it all worked! Was able to go from zero to be able to do some green runs after a 3 hour lesson.

When is the best time to visit The Remarkables Ski Area (Queenstown, New Zealand)?

Winter (June–September) brings best snow cover; midweek visits are quieter. In spring (October) slopes slushy after midday; start early.
