What makes it 81% Solo-Friendly: A solo visitor can enjoy art, riverside views, and self-paced photography in a safe, open park 2 blocks from the CBD, with benches, tram and punt access, but few covered shelters in rain.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: Enough time to follow the art trail, relax by the river, and join a punt tour without rushing.
Self-guided art and history walk:
Follow sandblasted panels behind the Queen Victoria statue and find Ngāi Tahu carvings and whāriki mats.
Tip: Download a map from the city council website and start at the Captain Cook statue.
Riverside reading or sketching:
Sit on a bench by the Avon River to write, draw, or watch punting boats.
Tip: Bring a portable sketchbook or a light novel; the benches are stroller- and wheelchair-friendly.
Punting on the Avon:
Take a 30-minute Edwardian-style punt ride from Antigua Boat Sheds.
Tip: Book online in advance for weekday discounts and share a boat to reduce cost.
Hop-on hop-off tram:
Use the heritage tram to reach Cathedral Square, Riverside Market, and New Regent Street.
Tip: Buy a day pass to board and alight at any stop; start at Armagh Street for fewer crowds.

A picturesque setting. Tranquility in the city.

Lovely little park close to our hotel, I walked past it quite a number of time going from hotel to museums, to dinner, to the hotel.

it might have been a square at one point but with the building development on the other side of the river this park is no longer a square. Disappointing but I still like it

Cool park. Well worth walking through.

Well designed and maintained city park. It’s located between the Town Hall and Convention centre, so a good place to take a walk either before or after you join some events. I have only been here a handful of times after living in Christchurch a few years. I definitely will come to here and walk around more often.
In spring the floral clock bulbs are in full bloom. Summer mornings bring cooler river breezes and fewer tourists. In autumn enjoy crisp air and golden leaves along the paths.
