What makes it 70% Kids-Friendly: Whānau Day crafts and free child tickets make music engaging, yet regular shows demand quiet listening and there is no permanent play zone or kid-specific lounge.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to join a workshop, catch a recital, and explore the foyer at a relaxed pace.
Creative Music Making Workshop:
Hands-on session where kids aged 3–7 and adults play instruments together.
Tip: Book online early and arrive 10 minutes before to settle in.
Family Concert with Michal Bush:
Catch catchy sing-along songs and dance-friendly tunes for children.
Tip: Encourage kids to dance in the aisles and bring socks for comfort.
Sunday at Four Piano Recital:
Attend a 4 pm piano recital any Sunday; school-age kids enter free.
Tip: Buy adult tickets (NZD 35) online in advance to secure free child spots.
Explore the Foyer Gallery:
View small art installations and interactive displays about upcoming shows.
Tip: Let kids spot instrument exhibits and read program notes together.

First time I've been to The Piano and it was absolutely fantastic! Such a great atmosphere. Clear views of the string quartet playing and parking just across the road! Excellent, highly recommend and definitely will be back!

First time visitor to the Piano. The venue and acoustics are fantastic. The music was stunning!!! The only disappointment was that it was only a little over an hour long. Selfishly I was enjoying the concert so much i wanted it to last longer. Will definitely come back and would happily recommend to others.
In March look for Whānau Day with free drop-in family activities. Year-round, Sunday recitals offer free child admission. School holidays often include extra workshops—check the website each month.
