What makes it 47% Kids-Friendly: Children are allowed, but there is no playground or permanent kid programming; unless a child-focused show is on, long events may bore under-12s, so suitability is only moderate.
Note: Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre is 47% Kids-Friendly. You may want to consider other Kids-Friendly Things to Do in Christchurch for a more suitable experience.
Why 2–3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for a children’s show, a quick tour of the foyer and a snack break without rushing young kids.
Attend a kids’ performance:
Book tickets to a family-focused show on the Te Pae What’s On calendar.
Tip: Book 2–4 weeks ahead for best seats and get children’s wristbands at entry.
Photo walk of the braided-river façade:
Explore the building’s distinctive exterior inspired by Canterbury’s rivers.
Tip: Use the Oxford Terrace side for the best light and pack a selfie stick for group shots.
Visit the parents’ room:
Find feeding chairs, microwave, sink and a changing table behind reception.
Tip: Stop here first to prep bottles or snacks before kids get restless.
Relax in the river-view lounge:
Sit by floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Avon River.
Tip: Arrive early to claim low armchairs and bring a small book or quiet toy for kids.

Photographed the RFUANZ awards at the newly built Te Pae Convection Centre. Modern, spacious, & really well set up. Staff were on point, the event ran smoothly, & it was easy to capture everything. Definitely a top spot for big events.

Really cool looking building use for conference and function! The building took up a big space of the whole square in the town centre. There are so many arts when you walk around the whole building. One of them is only visible at night time!
