What makes it 60% Baby-Friendly: Flat sand, nearby toilets and a grassy picnic zone suit a baby visit, but no change tables, little shade and rough water mean short stays and baby carriers, not strollers, are better.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Allows time for paddling, playground play, and a picnic without overtiring your baby.
Beach paddle near car park:
Flat sand and calm, shallow water close to the car park.
Tip: Bring a baby float and stay within armโs reach.
Picnic on the grassy lawn:
Shaded grass beside the playground for snacks and rest.
Tip: Pack a portable blanket and easy-to-eat baby snacks.
Swing time in the playground:
Baby-friendly swings and a small climbing frame.
Tip: Bring a favorite toy and supervise at all times.
Short beach stroll with baby carrier:
Sand walk beyond the playground using a baby carrier.
Tip: Skip strollers; limit the walk to 50โ100 m on flat sand.

Beautiful beach around 40 minute drive away from Christchurch central. Winter time is probably not the best time to visit as it get a little chilly and windy, but my kids still enjoyed it (we went there on Tuesday, so we were probably the only people there). Maybe we will return during sunny days yo enjoy the most of this beach.

Nice sheltered bay, good place for a sunrise, has toilets, plenty of parking, horrible drive over on the steep narrow road.

The waves were fantastic, perfect for both beginners and experienced surfers. The scenery is stunning, with beautiful coastal views that make the experience even more enjoyable. One important thing to note is to respect the local rules and the community ๐ค. The locals are welcoming, but it's essential to be mindful and follow their guidelines to ensure everyone has a great time.๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ Over...

What a wonderful place to wander around in the early morning! I wish a place for drinkable water tap on the way of the footpath nearby.
In summer weekends look for the ice cream truck (cash only). Use high-SPF sunblock and a wide-brim hat. In colder months keep the paddle brief and have warm blankets ready.
