What makes it 70% Kids-Friendly: Matinee G/PG sessions, child-price tickets, gelato snacks and hearing-aid headsets suit school-age kids, yet no arcade, booster cushions or play space means older children may get bored.
Why 2–3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: A single film plus time for snacks and exploring the Bijou Bar fits comfortably into a half-day outing for kids.
Catch a G/PG Matinee:
Book a G- or PG-rated film in the morning or early afternoon.
Tip: Reserve seats online early; matinees fill up quickly during the NZ International Film Festival.
Share Bijou Bar Snacks:
Pick up bagels, pastries or gelato to enjoy in the theatre.
Tip: Order before the movie starts and carry snacks into the screening room.
Use a 5-Trip NZIFF Pass:
Buy a shared pass for five festival films for the group.
Tip: Divide the pass across family members or save trips for a return visit.
Ask for Assistive Listening:
Collect free headsets at the box office if any child uses a hearing aid.
Tip: Request the device when you pick up tickets to test before the show.

Beautiful cinema with Cafe and bar. Comfy and spacious seating with large arm rests and drinks holder. Good quality sound and image on a medium sized screen.

Next time, I saw the wonderful, local film, Tinā. Saw The Salt Path in The Bernhardt cinema. Similar layout. Food and drink (alcohol too) are sold at the entrance bar. Easy bookin...

Beautiful cinema, very comfortable and clean. Beautiful upstairs bar and selection of treats at the front counter. Such a beautiful place! Parking was easy after 5.30pm, that was a Saturday too! Very much recommended. We will be back.

Best cinema I've ever been so far👍 Surroundings were full of artistic pieces, also there's food truck zone nearby so it's really cool to look around before the movie starts. I will be back to try cheese platter as well!

During the NZIFF (July–August), look for special family matinees and discounted child tickets. Winter screenings pair well with hot chocolates at the bar.
