Memorable and beautiful experience. Pricey boat ride, but so worth it. My almost five year old did the whole hike to the top and back.

A fantastic hike through beautiful native forest — truly felt immersed in nature. The trail was enjoyable from start to finish, offering peaceful surroundings and scenic views. A must-do experience in Auckland!

Very beginner friendly walks, no hiking experience needed. View from the top was nice, and there’s a few other little detours that you can take (lava caves were a good one).

Great hiking routes, some dangerous for the elderly. The black lava terrain against lush deep green makes for a beautiful contrast. Hiking can get long so use a map or google maps. Drop pins as you go at landmarks. Can be covered in 4 hrs but then there is a joint island so choose your departure time according to your plan. Bring water, coffee in a flask, dry snacks and wet wipes. No stores there,...

This trail is beginner friendly and it’s easy to hike up the summit. Don’t miss exploring the Lava Cave - just bring a torch as it’s pitch black inside! Overall the hike took us 4hrs and about 20k steps. Make sure to bring your own food and drink as they don’t have commercial cafes/restaurants in the area. The ferry going to Rangitoto has a mini cafe that makes good coffee too.
Spring (Sep-Nov) brings wildflowers and bird song; summer (Dec-Feb) requires extra sun protection and water; winter trails can get muddy—dress in layers.
