What makes it 79% Baby-Friendly: Babies can stay in prams on the flat Nature Trail and bucket swings; toilets have change tables, but there is no private nursing room and steep coastal tracks are unsuitable for carriers or strollers.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Enough time to do the Nature Trail loop, playground, beach paddling and a picnic without rushing a baby.
Nature Trail Loop:
1.1 km flat loop through wetlands and puriri forest.
Tip: Use your pram on the firm track; expect to spot pūkeko and ducks in 15 minutes.
All-Abilities Playground:
Toddler-safe equipment with bucket swings and a sandpit.
Tip: Go early to find a shaded spot and bring snacks for a quick break.
Shaded Picnic by Vaughan Homestead:
Grass under mature pōhutukawa with free electric BBQs nearby.
Tip: Lay a blanket close to a baby-change toilet block for convenience.
Beach Paddling at Vaughan Stream:
Shallow, warm pool formed at high tide near the beach.
Tip: Check tide times and stay between the red-and-yellow flags.

I loved staing there overnight. Quiet, close to the beach and you hear the waves. Just a loveley beach and park space.

One of my favourite places on Earth. A lovely long linear regional park with a fun playground for kids, picnic areas, a beautiful beach, an old homestead and a gorgeous coastal walkway.
In summer swim between lifeguard flags and rinse off under outdoor showers. Visit in spring or autumn for fewer crowds and wildflower sightings. Always check tide times before paddling.
