Positives:

  • Free entry to key attractions: Wintergardens, sculpture trail and parks cost nothing to enjoy.
  • Pushchair-friendly paths: Most paved trails link the glasshouses, ponds and Museum entrance.
  • Engaging Museum exhibits: Interactive displays and live Māori performances hold kids’ interest.

Challenges:

  • No formal playground: There is no dedicated play structure—bring sports gear or games.
  • Uneven natural trails: Some bush tracks use gravel or roots—sturdy shoes help younger children.

We enjoyed our visit but there were several areas/exhibits closed which was disappointing. The place was like a rabbit warren and we had trouble working out where we were. We wandered through an open door trying to find the toilets. As we were leaving a staff member questioned if we had a ticket for the paid performance. She was polite but it put us off - the door had been wide open and there w...

Hill top locations cannot be beaten for an early morning visit with the world still asleep. What an amazing park for young and old and sights to explore here in Auckland. Play cricket, kick a ball, picnic with friends and family and enjoy the views. Or get a taste of culture inside the museum and stop for a moment of reflection and remember what this place is meant to keep us aware of. Abd yes, it...

I found the museum to be exceptionally beautiful and majestic. We enjoyed a delightful meal of fish and chips with ice-cold beer. The grounds were breathtaking, and while the building's multi-level design presented a slight navigational challenge, this added to the overall experience of discovery. I highly recommend a visit.
