What makes it 77% Kids-Friendly: Children get a themed audio tour, scavenger hunt, and tile-painting; however, fragile ceramics demand constant supervision and there is no play area, so suitability is good but not ideal.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Covers the self-guided tour, kids activities, and a quick workshop without rush.
Self-guided factory and museum tour:
Walk through 17th-century workshops and see potters at work.
Tip: Pick up free audio guides at reception in your language and start early to avoid crowds.
Kids’ scavenger hunt and audio tour:
Children follow a map and collect clues across the museum.
Tip: Ask for the scavenger pack at arrival; it keeps both younger and older kids engaged.
Tile-painting workshop:
Paint a Delft Blue tile under a master painter’s guidance.
Tip: Book the 14:00 session online before your visit; suitable for ages 7+.
Brasserie 1653 family lunch:
Enjoy local dishes and homemade pie in the courtyard.
Tip: Reserve garden seating and request a high chair for your little one.

A beautiful experience! Seeing the history of the blue pottery was fascinating, but the real highlight was the café in the middle (Brasserie 1653). Sitting in the courtyard garden felt like absolute heaven—so peaceful and green. You must try the cappuccino; it is delicious and served in their stunning, signature Delft Blue cups. A perfect, artistic break!

We scheduled half day in Delft and I felt that this museum would be a must-go and it surely is. The opportunity of a glimpse of the workshop area is amazing. It was an enjoyable trip getting some knowledge of Dutch porcelain history, appreciation of beautiful porcelain art pieces. It is open on Monday which is a bonus.

From its history on how the Dutch people copied the idea of blue pottery from Chinese, the guided tour on how the designs are made on porcelain with charcoal and chemical reaction gives blue colour was interesting. Overall it was short but nice guided tour and fun to learn. The place is worth exploring if you are visiting Delft and interested in blue pottery. There is a nice souvenir shop with lot...

The Royal Delft museum is a really nice place for a short day-time program if you're visiting Delft. There is an exhibition from the techniques used in the process to modern art pieces. The building has a beautiful garden in the middle, which was unfortunately closed. We spent about an hour in the museum. They also have a sizable gift shop, where you can place orders or buy already-made pieces. Th...
