What makes it 86% Kids-Friendly: Children get treasure hunts, dress-up and outdoor games, cheap tickets and step-free access, although there is no dedicated playroom and parents must guard fragile displays.
Why 2–3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to tour traditional buildings, watch the short film, complete the treasure hunt and try outdoor games without rushing.
Explore the Farmhouse & Fisherman’s House:
Walk through the thatched farmhouse and adjacent fisherman’s cottage to see original peat-cutting tools and wooden boats.
Tip: Point out tools to kids and supervise close viewing to keep fragile exhibits safe.
Watch the Historic Film:
See a 10-minute documentary on turf cutting and village life in the seated film room.
Tip: Arrive a few minutes early to get front-row benches that are easy for children to climb onto.
Complete the Speurtocht Treasure Hunt:
Pick up the free booklet at the ticket desk and follow simple clues through each room.
Tip: Offer a small reward from the shop for each clue found to keep younger children engaged.
Play Outdoor Historic Games:
Try hoop-rolling, stilts and other 19th-century games on the museum grounds.
Tip: Bring a light jacket and rubber-soled shoes for safe play on grass and gravel.

It is a small but really cute museum. It gives the feeling of walking in a house in 1800s. We loved to look around in the house and read about some of the unfamiliar items aim of use. You can also put some clothes on from these times and take some photos. Museum card is valid here.

Clean and tidy restrooms with hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and a diaper changing station. The museum's environment and staff are warm and friendly.

Amazing place to see the rich heritage and a bit of history of Geithorn. We passed by and visited the museum. The lovely people who manage the place are very warm and very very sweet. They let us try Heritage Food that is very tasty. Realy warm place to visit. Thank you very much.

Loved the place! They have audio aids with explanations in a lot of languages. The place is really nice, you will find a lot of information about the village, it was actually pretty interesting. They have old clothes, furniture, and everything is arranged as if we were living in the old Giethoorn. I went on a Saturday and they were selling knieperties, so delicious!

Are you also curious about the history of the place you visited? If so, it's an excellent opportunity to learn about the past of this fairy-tale village and the life of the people who used to live there. Although it is not a very big museum, the history is explained in detail. Authentic items and clothing are on display. You can also try historical clothes and clogs and take pictures.
In summer, the outdoor games area is open and shaded by trees. In rainy weather, carry waterproof jackets and plan the treasure hunt indoors first. Winter visits can feel cool inside older buildings, so layer up.
