Mercure Kota Kinabalu City Centre (solo trip)

Rooms: The units are spacious and family-friendly. I stayed in a two-bedroom unit, which was comfortable overall. There was a slight musty smell when we first checked in, but it disappeared after ventilating the room. Location was great with a good view of the harbor/waterfront. The rooftop bar afforded us one of the best sunsets of our trip. The malls across the street were easy to get to as was the Filipino market and other attractions. The room was clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was okay, just the furniture looked a little dated with musty odour. There was an unpleasant odour in the bathroom, possibly from the drainage. Not what i expected from a 4-star hotel. A few maintenance issues need attention — the door required extra force to close, the TV speaker produced static noise, and the bedside lamp was broken. I stayed at the Mercure for three nights and had a very smooth check in. The location is great and very central and walking distance to most places within the city. I really like how this hotel has a filter tap in the rooms as opposed to bottled water, as its a great environmental conscious way to stop contributing to single waste plastic which from my visit to Asia seems to be a very big problem....
