What makes it 77% Kids-Friendly: Kids can enjoy a playground, shallow snorkeling, banana-boat rides and a children’s pool, but parents must supervise closely and bring life vests because strong sun and boat travel add risk.
Why 0.5–1 day visit duration is ideal for with kids: A half-day to full-day visit lets your family enjoy boat rides, beach time, snorkeling, and playground without rushing.
Speedboat transfer from Jesselton Point:
Catch the 20-minute public speedboat to Manukan Island.
Tip: Arrive 15 minutes early at Jesselton Point to secure seats for four.
Shallow snorkeling with life jackets:
Kids and adults can snorkel near the shore among coral gardens.
Tip: Rent child-sized life jackets (RM10–RM15) and stay in waist-deep water for safety.
Glass bottom boat trip:
Enjoy a 15–20 minute ride to view fish and corals without getting wet.
Tip: Book at the on-island desk; mid-morning trips offer clearer water views.
Playground and picnic:
Let kids run and climb in the beach playground, then eat under a shaded shelter.
Tip: Bring simple snacks or buy sandwiches at the café; shelters fill up by noon.
Jungle trail walk:
Follow the easy, boardwalk trail into the island’s interior.
Tip: Wear closed shoes and bring water; the short loop takes 20–30 minutes.

We had a lovely family trip here for a day, enjoying snokelling and the beach. However, the seabed was not as clean as expected and by afternoon it was crowded. A lovely area to escape from the city life. A short trip to the island by bot from Jesselton Point Jetty.

We visited here last weekend. Beautiful crystal clear water, soft sand, PLASTIC everywhere - in the ocean and on the sand. This was extremely disheartening to see. If you wish to snorkel with plastic bottles and bits of plastic, then I suggest you visit.

This place was amazing. The island is stunning, with soft white sand and crystal-clear blue waters. Very recommend doing snorkling here since there are various fishes. Never visit Kinabalu without coming here 🔥
