Positives:

  • Cultural Immersion: Kids see local crafts and foods up close in a lively market setting.
  • Affordable Prices: Most items and snacks cost under MYR20 per piece.

Challenges:

  • Crowded Aisles: Stalls are close together—hold children’s hands to stay together.
  • Uneven Pavement: Wear sturdy shoes and watch toddlers on cracked sidewalks.

Gaya Street Night Market is lively with lots of food options and even some busking performances. Prices aren’t exactly cheap, but the atmosphere is fun. Sabah is generally known for being safe with minimal pickpocketing, yet it’s wise to stay cautious here because it can get very crowded.

Best place to find local food & drinks. Accompanied with busker at every corner. Good place to hangout with friends/family. One missing star because lack of trash can nearby.

A sensory overload in the best way. So many new sights and flavors—from local specialties to exotic traditional foods blending Chinese, Malay, and Indigenous influences. Locals casually buy food and sit on the ground to eat. Smoke rises from BBQ stalls, and the gentle music of Islamic groups dining together fills the air. Truly atmospheric.

This place is a great spot to visit with family and friends at night. There are many street food stalls, and all the food is very delicious. The prices are also reasonable. There are also entertainers such as live bands, guitarists, sape players, and groups of children singing. All the songs they played were really nice
