How Baby-Friendly is The University of Tokyo?

Flat walkways and several nursing or diaper rooms help stroller users, yet facilities are spread across buildings, many halls have steps and there are no baby play corners to extend the stay.

Considerations for visiting The University of Tokyo (with baby)

Positives:

  • Stroller paths: Wide, paved walkways make campus navigation easy with a stroller.
  • Changing facilities: Changing tables available near Akamon gate and cafeteria on Hongo campus.

Challenges:

  • Limited baby rooms: Most nursing rooms require prior application; plan ahead to use them.
  • Crowded lunchtime: Central Cafeteria is busiest from 12:00–13:00, making stroller space tight.

Recommended visit duration: 2-3 hours

Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Allows time for a gentle campus stroll, botanical garden visit, and snack breaks with your baby.

Very beautiful campus filled with Neo-Gothic buildings. Although the gothic style is very different from those of the ancient universities of Europe, it still gives the university an old and classy look.

Probably the best university in Japan. We toured inside the campus and it was amazing! We went through different buildings and small parks or rest areas inside campus. There is a lot of greenery and good landscaping inside the premises. They also have a wonderful and huge campus Cafeteria which serves very good Japanese and international food, and so cheap! The campus Co-Op shop has almost everyth...

Established in 1877, it is one of Japan’s leading academic institutions and a hub for cutting-edge research and education. The campus is renowned for its rich history, picturesque scenery, and state-of-the-art facilities, combining traditional architecture with modern infr...

One of the best universities in the world, they have very unique historical buildings. The cool environment makes students feel at home doing their assignments here. They have very complete and international standard facilities. I see that one of the requirements for taking a master's or PhD is to have a certificate of being able to speak Japanese. Commensurate with the quality provided.
