Children aged 6–12 ride the cruise for ¥500 with life jackets, play in Canal Park, and explore the nearby museum, but parents must guard against falls from the unfenced water edge and pack warm layers.
Why 3–4 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for a canal cruise, playground visit, and two craft workshops without rushing.
Canal Cruise:
Take a 35–40 minute guided boat ride along the gas-lit warehouses.
Tip: Buy tickets at the Chūō Bridge booth early to secure family seats.
Canal Park Playground:
Let kids play by the water fountain and anchor-shaped benches.
Tip: Visit before 5 PM; the indoor play area closes in winter.
Music Box Crafting:
Choose a box, tune, and decorations to build a working music box.
Tip: Book your 20–30 minute session in advance on busy weekends.
Sand-Blast Glass Experience:
Etch patterns into glass sheets in a 1–2 hour workshop.
Tip: Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dusty or ask for an apron.

The temperature was heck hot like in the desert but there is a small fountain to cool U down The place is on a bridge and there is boat ride on the canal. There is a temperature stand and it is a great and historical feeling as tit was made by stone bricks.

One of the main attractions of Otaru however I expected a bit more from this place. There is just simple walk with busy streets on side with loud cars. Didn’t find it very relaxing. You have to cross the street or pass the canal to stop in some climatic cafe or just chill out. I thought the canal will be more calm and relaxing place.

A lovely serene area in the city, lined with historic warehouses. This is quite the tourist attraction in that it’s very photogenic, you can go on a boat cruise along the canal, and there are many eateries and shops to explore nearby.

The canal runs right through the town and is perfect for just strolling along and taking it all in. You can also hop on a boat ride, which is a really nice way to see the area from a different persp...

Highly recommend to purchase tickets before hand. The canal river tour will less about 40 minutes. Headset are provided with mamy languages by selecting the right channel. It was a relaxing event and you can walk along the canal...
