So beautiful! It’s quite small but iconic. Not crazy amounts of people when we went near closing time. Don’t need tickets to walk the grounds and take pictures. 10 minutes is enough just to see it (grounds)

What other shrine has a giant lion head? This super unique shrine was pleasant to visit, and it’s not very large so you won’t need much more than half an hour to admire it. The staff on site are very friendly and there’s a shop to purchase small charms and ema boards to write your wishes on. It’s much more peaceful and serene in the morning before the tourists pour in.

When is the best time to visit Namba Jinja Shrine (Osaka, Japan)?

In July, arrive before 10 am to watch the lion dances with fewer crowds. In January, attend the tug-of-war ritual but bundle your baby against the wind.
