Parents with an infant enter free, borrow a stroller, and use two nursing rooms and diaper tables; static trains amuse briefly, but no baby-specific play and some diorama sounds are loud.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Enough time to explore exhibits at a relaxed pace with a baby, plus breaks in nursing rooms and snacks.
Explore real train cars:
Walk through 39 authentic vehicles from steam engines to the MLX01 maglev.
Tip: Use wide aisles and ramps for stroller access; pause inside Shinkansen cabins for photo ops.
Watch the Tōkaidō model train diorama:
See moving mini trains and cities in a 20-minute light-and-sound show.
Tip: Claim a front-row bench early; the lights and sounds captivate infants.
Relax in nursing rooms and changing facilities:
Two private nursing rooms and multipurpose toilets have fold-down tables and baby seats.
Tip: Bring warm water for formula; both floors have accessible stalls.
Use the free Audio Guide:
Stream narrations in English, Korean, Chinese and more via museum Wi-Fi.
Tip: Lower volume near your baby or use one earbud to avoid startling them.
Grab ekiben or snacks at Delica Station café:
Taste local bento and ice cream amid the train displays.
Tip: Choose table seating near windows to watch trains roll by while you rest.

This was a fun, interesting, and informative visit. Many trains here, old to new. They even allow you to walk inside many of the real trains on display. Find out many facts relative to tracks, power, speed, and, of course, magnetic levitation! Very small kid and big kid friendly! Enjoy in Japanese or English.

Not my usual cup of tea, but it was beyond impressed with the collections of trains. Impressive beyond most any museum in the US exception being a few of the Smithsonians. Very interactive for kids and adults alike, if you happen to be in Nagoya about a 20-minute subway ride from the main station can spend about an hour and a half to 2 hours here looking around.

This museum is very interesting. There is a lot to see here and many great exhibits to explain all the parts of modern Shinkansen. I found the trains on display were excellent in showing how the shapes of the trains have changed. The ability to tour the insides of these machines was less interesting to me as I have been riding various Shinkansen and local for the last 3 weeks. The diorama was imp...

Visited with family in the morning and had a great time. The train collection is really impressive — from early steam engines to shinkansen and the maglev. It’s fascinating to see the history and technology behind Japan’s rail system, even if you're not a hardcore train fan. Our son enjoyed walking through the train cars and trying out the interactive exhibits. Unfortunately, the driving simulato...

It's a true sensory experience – a feast for the eyes, ears, and even your sense of wonder. Witnessing these magnificent machines firsthand is an absolute must-do when in Japan. And for an incredibly affordable ¥500, you can even try your hand at a train driver simulat...
