Kyoto Universal Hotel Karasuma (couple trip)

This hotel is not like some guidebooks describe, or users review. It’s disappointing. There’s no air conditioning in the hallways after leaving the lobby or elevator. Worse of a kind. The rooms are very small, we knew that overall the rooms are small in Japan but this hotel was in the different level really small. Bedroom was small, we had a smoking room which smelt of cigs all day and night I assumed there would be better ventilation due to it being a smoking room but no.The mattress that I slept on had a dip in it which hasn’t helped my back but also the mattress and pillows were rock hard. It just overall wasn’t a good experience from the 4pm check in to leaving.

When i asked for a free room they said it is full at first. All otels were full due to weekend. We asked for help for a free room maybe in another otel and asked for them to call. Apart from a bit of a wait to check in we had a relaxing stay here. The food the serve is great and the staff are friendly and helpful. Clean rooms with plenty of space, definitely worth the money. Location is good as it’s quiet and has easy access to public transportation.
