What makes it 70% Kids-Friendly: Children up to 12 can join ‘MAXXI in famiglia’ labs, baby-park drop-in or explore the outdoor plaza, but standard exhibitions are text-heavy so interest may fade after two hours.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for galleries, a family workshop, and play on the outdoor plaza without rushing children.
Explore the Zaha Hadid building:
Walk through the flowing concrete galleries and open staircases.
Tip: Point out shapes and curves to spark kids’ imagination and take photos in the sweeping hall.
Join a “MAXXI in famiglia” workshop:
Hands-on art lab for children 5–11 led by museum educators.
Tip: Book in advance by emailing edumaxxi@fondazionemaxxi.it and arrive 10 minutes early.
Run and discover on the plaza:
Wide outdoor space with large sculptures and views over the river.
Tip: Bring a small ball or kite; supervise near the edges and pack sunscreen in summer.
Attend a free sign-language lab:
Seasonal Italian sign-language course for children aged 6–10.
Tip: Check the MAXXI events page for holiday dates and reserve early online.

The exterior, book store and cafe are free to visit. You only need tickets for seeing the exhibition spaces. Would suggest taking some time to walk around the building as well, since it’s just as (if not more) beautiful outside. They have a really good collection of books and other trinkets at the book store, focusing mainly on architecture since it’s a Zaha Hadid building. If you do stop by the c...

Let's just call it an 'odd' experience. Unfortunately, I think it's one of Hadid's least-successful buildings. A huge building with relatively little usable space, which makes for confusing wayfinding once in the building (it took me 4 tries to find the right combination of 'entry' doors and 'front' desks before I could actually gain entrance to the galleries). The art was quite interesting, what ...

It was not worth all the public transport we had to take. Having said that the football/soccer exhibition was really cool! It was fascinating to look at the architectural dimension of the sport through the various designs of stadiums. Also, there is a Good affordable cafeteria!

Some of the exposition blew my mind. They were so good, impressive, gave special moments of insights. The rest, like a football hall, was a bit ordinary and boring.

I enjoyed strolling through the spacious Zaha Hadid-designed building, admiring the contemporary art. I particularly enjoyed the "Stadiums" exhibition, even though I'm not a football fan - it's an in-depth look at stadium architecture and the passion for football. The staff was very friendly. Worth it!
Spring and autumn have mild weather for plaza play. In summer, arrive early to avoid heat and bring water bottles. Winter workshops may fill up—reserve ahead.
