How Kids-Friendly is Royal Palace of Naples?

77%Kids-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 77% Kids-Friendly: Under-18s enter free, a child-friendly app and treasure-hunt visits engage ages 6-12, but fragile décor, few hands-on displays and long rooms mean constant adult supervision.

Positives:

  • Kids enter free: All visitors under 18 receive complimentary entry with a paid adult ticket.
  • Interactive storytelling app: The free kids’ app offers age-tailored narrations and seek-and-find prompts throughout the palace.

Challenges:

  • Slippery marble floors: Wear shoes with good grip; keep an eye on children running on polished staircases.
  • Booking required for workshops: Reserve family game visits online early; walk-up spots are rare.

Absolutely worth visiting. Not much crowd. Also guided tours with access to the terrace with great views at select hours - 10AM, 11 AM, 3 PM and 4 PM for sure - maybe a couple more slots - plan accordingly. Even without that, their free audio guide using the QR code is helpful.

At 15 euros it's overpriced and can be skipped, only a couple of rooms are worth the visit. Diabolical ticket system that include useless small exhibitions and does not offer discounts in the afternoon when Caruso museum is closed! I can only praise the staff because they were very kind and friendly.

The first rooms you come across are absolutely beautiful. As you go along, it seems beautiful but sort of the same looking room after room. The signage isn’t great, some signs seemed to point you towards nothing. The art is great throughout but a bit too far to really appreciate I’d say.

Note... the theatre ...

It's incredible to see where royalty once lived, though, due to successive changes, adoptions and reconstructions, a lot of the lived-in feeling has been lost. The interiors are sumptuous and you really have an idea of the wealth of its inhabitants. No beds, bathrooms or much of the original furniture is left, so one must imagine what the rooms may have originally looked like before they became s...
