How Baby-Friendly is Castel Nuovo?

45%Baby-Friendly
View Map

What makes it 45% Baby-Friendly: Babies are allowed, but cobblestones, long stair flights, few benches, no lifts, changing tables or nursing rooms oblige a carrier and quick visits, making the outing tiring for caregivers.

This is mostly an art museum, the castle parts have been plastered over. Not worth the 15 euro. The Duomo is free and has much better art. The best part of the castle is the front gate which you don’t need a ticket for.

This was a Jim Dine exhibition located inside Castel Nuovo. It was really good, and the installations were created on-site and included the existing building walls, artworks, and even the underground structure of the building itself. Castel Nuovo is spectacularly beautiful, and the view from the top floor is also breathtaking. Some parts of it are used for the Mayor of Naples communal assembly. Th...

An impressive historic castle and a key landmark in Naples. The exterior is beautiful and definitely worth seeing. The interior is interesting, but for me it didn’t add enough compared to how much you already get just by seeing the castle from the outside.

Named Castel Nuovo to distinguish it from the city's other fortresses when it was built in the 13th century by King Charles I of Anjou, this imposing castle is more commonly known by locals as Maschio Angioino, or the Angevin Keep. After French rule ended and Naples was conquered by the Spanish Empire in the mid 15th century, Castel Nuovo was completely rebuilt by Alfonso V of Aragon, creating the...

As many have said, structurally this is quite an impressive castle overlooking the port. The entrance fee had doubled to €10, with an extra €10 for the guided tour around the dungeon. There was some interesting art (some to my taste, but some not), and unfortunately, the top stairwell was closed off. It kept us entertained for an hour or two while it rained, anyway.

When is the best time to visit Castel Nuovo (Naples, Italy)?

In summer, visit early to avoid heat; carry sun hat, water, and light snacks. In winter, the castle is less crowded but bring a warm layer for winds on ramps.
