A solo traveler can freely linger for photos, learn the legend from the plaque, and join several walking tours that start here; the open street setting poses minimal logistical hurdles.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for solo trip: Enough time to admire details, listen to buskers, and join a short tour
Self-Guided Photo & Story:
Read the plaque and study Jeanne Rynhart’s bronze work.
Tip: Inspect the folds of her dress and snap close-ups of the fish cart details
Live Street Music:
Listen to buskers playing Irish folk tunes nearby.
Tip: Stand on the curb to avoid crowds and enjoy clear acoustics
Mythology & Folklore Tour:
Join a small-group tour to hear Molly Malone’s legend.
Tip: Book in advance and pack a waterproof layer for Dublin weather
In summer, buskers gather in the late afternoon near the statue. In winter, fewer performers mean quieter visits; consider an evening ghost tour to add atmosphere.

Next to a pretty church! Definitely worth a quick walk from Trinity. O'Neill pub next door has Beamish and lovely marble!
Vanitha Sivaji
Famously known when we think about Dublin, Ireland. A statue in rememberance of Molly for her sacrifices and hardwork in order to keep her family from being stranded, or get thrown out into the streets.
Caryn Isabelle
It's a statue with a story. We met our walking tour group here. I'm sorry we missed her celebration which was coming up in a few days. It sounded like they dress her up and everyone has a really good time.
THE EXPLORER
We flew to Dublin and joined a bus tour including Dublin and all around Ireland. It was a great trip. After visiting The Temple Bar Pub, we found the statue of Molly Malone. Not much to see but a bit of history. A busy area.

I’m not sure who started the tradition of grabbing her breasts—or why the statue was even designed that way in the first place. It feels a bit odd and unnecessary. While the statue itself is iconic and part of Dublin’s charm, I really hope the Dublin City Council considers making some changes to present Molly in a more respectful and comfortable way. She deserves better!
