Couples enjoy lakeside walks, Regency walled garden, cosy cafés and summer concerts; plentiful photo spots and free sports courts, but crowds and parking fill fast on event days.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for couple trip: Allows time for a woodland stroll, garden visit and café break without rushing.
Woodland Trails & Lakeside Walk:
Follow the marked paths past ponds, a waterfall and the lakeside boathouse.
Tip: Start at the main gate and loop back near the Regency Garden to see the island view.
Regency Walled Garden:
Explore herbaceous borders, fruit trees and the orangery for quiet moments.
Tip: Grab a coffee and slice of cake at the Head Gardener’s cottage tea room by the entrance.
Guided Tour of Marlay House:
Join a free house tour during Heritage Week or book a summer garden tour.
Tip: Check the council website or call ahead for tour times and book early to secure spots.
Coffee or Light Meal at On-Site Cafés:
Choose Boland’s Café behind the house or Wicklow Way Café near the golf pavilion.
Tip: Arrive mid-morning to avoid queues and snag an outdoor table overlooking the lawns.
Tennis or Boules Game:
Use the free outdoor courts for a friendly match together.
Tip: Bring your own racquets or boules and reserve a court via the park office on busy weekends.
Visit on a weekend between May and September to catch the farmers’ market and the miniature steam railway operating Saturdays.

A very large public park with ample car parking dotted around the perimeter. A couple of small coffee shops around the park. A small Avery inside the walled garden.

Was there for Noah Kahan recently and Green Day last summer. Great venue for gigs. I do think more veggie/vegan food should be available given how many food trucks and how many people are there. The staff are fantastic and friendly in terms of accessibility. Although the accessible platform itself should be more towards the centre rather than completely to one side Overall, good venue, good atmosp...

Beautiful park, with an aviary that has soo many bird species, can spend an hour watching them and meandering through the many canals and walkways that zigzag the forested park. Also they have lovely cafes and a public toilet! Plus food stalls on the weekend.

Beautiful park that is accessible to Dublin City Centre if you’re willing to take a bus ride, it’s a trail head on the Wicklow Way (and a hike up to the Fairy Castle).

Nice park very quiet and a love of open space to walk around, I really liked the combinations of water in the park which add to the natural vibe of the location
