Kids enjoy buskers and watching boats, and the deck has guardrails, yet there are no toilets, fences are climbable, and heavy crowds near water demand close supervision.

Positives:

  • Free Entry: No fee to walk across, making it easy to fit into any schedule.
  • Stroller-Friendly: Flat deck and barrier rails allow safe stroller access.

Challenges:

  • Crowds at Peak Times: The bridge narrows to 3.66 m and fills up, making it hard to stop for photos.
  • No On-Bridge Facilities: There are no restrooms or benches directly on the bridge—plan stops nearby.

What is Ha'penny Bridge?

  • A cast-iron pedestrian bridge spanning the River Liffey in central Dublin, completed in 1816
  • Named for its original half-penny toll, the structure features graceful white arches supported by slender columns
  • Restored and maintained as a protected heritage landmark, it exemplifies early 19th-century Georgian engineering and design

  2. Enjoy free buskers’ performances at both ends
  3. Take a short river cruise for a unique under-bridge view
  4. Capture sunrise or sunset photos with glowing arches
  5. Access nearby family facilities and cafés

My Partner and i were looking for that bridge up and down the River only to realise that we already crossed it twice. We imagined it Grander or even remarkable. But its just a ordinary bridge 🤷‍♀️. Gets its job done i guess 👍

It's a pedestrian foot bridge... And something of a local icon. Heavily used, but designed and built with charm and grace. Nice views of the city along the Liffey.

Beautiful historic bridge in the heart of Dublin. It’s a quick crossing, but full of charm and character, with great views of the River Liffey on both sides. Very busy with tourists taking photos, so it can get crowded, but that’s part of the atmosphere. A must-see landmark if you’re exploring the city.

This is a really cool bridge. It is iconic for a reason because it has cool architecture and great views. We saw a beautiful white swan in the water as we walked over it.
