What makes it 71% Kids-Friendly: Kids enjoy turning the winding passages into a scavenger hunt and spotting windmills, but sharp stairs, no guardrails, zero toilets and no snack kiosks mean vigilance and quick exit.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: A 2–3 hour visit lets kids explore the alleys, spot landmarks, climb to windmills, and enjoy a snack without rushing.
Castle maze scavenger hunt:
Kids search the narrow alleys for small chapels, carved doorways, and hidden arches.
Tip: Give each child a simple checklist of things to spot before entering to keep them engaged.
Windmills hill picnic:
Walk 1.5 km to Gavrilos hill to see eight classic Cycladic windmills.
Tip: Pack sandwiches and water; shade is limited on the hilltop.
Child-friendly guided tour:
Join a local guide who tells pirate stories and shows secret paths.
Tip: Book in advance at the Emporio tourist office; confirm price and group size.

Amazing little step back in traditional Greek culture. Small cobble paths, white buildings leading up to the castle. Definitely worth a visit.

Favorite part of Santorini. You feel like you are discovering it for yourself since it’s not touristy at all. Away from the Oia and Fira crowds. We are here a month vacationing (visiting from New Orleans, LA USA) and it’s been incredible. With a car quick easy access to everywhere. This is quite the hike daily to our apartment. But we need the exercise anyways.

Once inside, you can’t really capture a full view of the castle from outside—it’s integrated into the surrounding homes and paths. Almost no tourists were around when we visited, giving it a quiet, mysterious vibe. It fee...

Visiting the Venetian Castle in Santorini is like stepping into a storybook. Perched above the village of Emporio, this historic gem offers not just a glimpse into the island’s medieval past, but also breathtaking views along the way. The walk up to the castle is a highlight in itself — winding through narrow alleys, charming houses, and traditional blue-domed chapels, each corner more picturesque...

I visited the castle today, it was empty but you could go all round viewing some churches within the area There is a path inside that gets you through the village of Emborio I would advise low comfortable shoes if you are planning to visit here
Visit early morning or late afternoon in summer to avoid peak heat and crowds. In spring, wildflowers add color around the castle.
