What makes it 72% Kids-Friendly: Kids enjoy spotting cannons and secret rooms and tickets are low-cost, yet some rampart edges lack full railings and there is no hands-on play or guided children’s program.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Families need time to explore vaults, climb ramparts and pause for snacks without rushing.
Explore dungeons and cannon rooms:
Wander through vaulted corridors and old storage chambers filled with cannonballs.
Tip: Let kids count cannonballs and imagine loading the guns as Venetian guards.
Climb to the ramparts roof terrace:
Follow the gentle ramp to the top for 180° views of the harbour and city.
Tip: Arrive early to claim a spot by the low wall, and bring water and a hat for kids.
Complete the family quiz trail:
Pick up the free paper quiz at the ticket booth to spot symbols and inscriptions.
Tip: Reward kids with the small sticker prize to keep them motivated toward the end.
Hide-and-seek on the outer walls:
Use the safe spaces around the fortress base for playful exploration.
Tip: Stay close to the quay edge and keep an eye on younger children near the water.

The Venetian fortress Rocca a Mare is definitely interesting, even though you can get through it rather quickly. A big plus: EU citizens under 25 get free entry. From the walls you also have a nice view of the harbor and the city. Overall, worth a visit, 4 stars.

Nice place to visit, great views from the top. For EU citizens born 2000 or later free entrance. In case you order something in the cafeteria on top, ask and check your receipts! We took two slush drinks (colored ice, see the picture), and were told it cost 10€, no receipt provided. When I checked my card transactions next day, they actually charged 13€ instead of 10! For that reason 4 stars only...
From June to August visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid midday heat. In winter bring a wind-proof layer as the ramparts can be blustery.
