Positives:

  • Self-paced exploration: You control your own schedule without group constraints.
  • Compact site: You can see main highlights in a single loop around the temple.

Challenges:

  • Strong midday sun: There is almost no shade; bring sunscreen and a hat.
  • Uneven surfaces: Watch your step on worn marble to avoid slips.

Another amazing piece of history that we were keen to visit! Parthenon is an amazing wonder of the world, glimpse in to the past as you navigate the beautiful site that is clearly marked and easy to access for all. Plenty of steps, but your on top of the world once close to the towering stone and marble pillars. It’s €30 euro for a ticket either online or at the kiosk. If you arrive around 10/1...

Beautiful. Definitely worth a visit. Especially if you’re under 25 otherwise it can get pretty expensive. We went at 6pm and the crowd was fine. Definitely buy tickets online makes it easier at the entrance bc you can just get in line and wait.

Truly historical, quite possibly my favourite place i’ve seen in Europe entirely. I love the view from here too overlooking Athens. Definitely without a doubt worth a visit.

It's getting sympathetically restored extremely slowly. In fact, some of the work previously done by others has been found to be wrong and needs redoing. And therefore is even slower. I doubt I'll see it finished in my lifetime. There's a water machine at the bottom and both a machine and tap at the top. Walking this is for able bodied people only. There are many steps. Also, it's incredibly crow...

Undeniably legendary. This place has real presence and even for a few moments I hope you are struck by what “history” really means. You don’t have to study it. You don’t need a special tour. This is what humans do given time and pride and enough cooperation. Religion, government, society… it’s all just people cooperating to create monuments both real and imagined. Take it all in. Breathe out. St...
