What makes it 58% Baby-Friendly: The smooth plaza allows strollers and a 10-minute guard view, yet no nursing room, diaper table, or reliable shade exists, so carers must schedule feeding and changing elsewhere.
Why 1-2 hours visit duration is ideal for with baby: Enough time to see the guard change and relax by the monument without tiring the baby.
Watch the Changing of the Guard:
See the Evzones perform a precise swap every hour.
Tip: Arrive 5 minutes early to get a clear view without blocking the crowd.
Stroller Roll on Smooth Ramps:
Push the stroller up the gentle ramps onto the monument platform.
Tip: Use the northwest ramp for the clearest path and least steps.
Rest on Garden Benches:
Sit on benches near the National Garden edge under shade.
Tip: Bring a light blanket for extra comfort and shade cover.
In summer, visit early (8-10AM) to avoid heat. In winter, dress baby in warm layers. Spring and fall offer mild weather ideal for short strolls.

The changing of the guard in Athens is a unique experience. The soldiers’ slow, deliberate way of marching and their traditional uniforms make it quite special to watch. Compared to the ceremony in Washington D.C., it feels less emotional and less surrounded by a sense of deep respect. Still, it’s definitely worth seeing when visiting Athens, as it gives a glimpse into Greek tradition and history.
