Positives:

  • Rich Mythic Heritage: Temple design reflects Athena and Poseidon’s contest, adding depth to your visit.
  • Intimate Setting: Smaller crowds here than at the Parthenon allow a quieter shared experience.

Challenges:

  • Uneven Ground: Marble steps and terraces are worn; wear sturdy shoes and watch your step.
  • No Interior Access: You can only view the temple from the outside, limiting close-up inspection.

Built between 421 and 406 BC, it was dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon, reflecting the mythological contest between the two deities for the city's patronage. Its unusual, asymmetrical design sets it apart from other temples, responding to the uneve...

Absolutely stunning! My favourite temple within the Acropolis of Athens. The statues of Athena are replicas. You can find the original statues within the Acropolis Museum. Love the olive tree outside of the temple, it adds so much to meaning of what it is.

In 1978, severely weathered and affected by pollution, five caryatids were ...

On the Erechtheion terrace stand 6 caryatids, columns sculpted in the form of a woman. These columns are not the original statues but copies. The 5 original statues were transferred t...
