Areopagus Hill (or Mars Hill) is a rocky outcrop near the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, famous as the meeting place for the ancient city's high court and council, the Areopagus, handling serious crimes and law, and notably, the site where St. Paul delivered his sermon on the "Unknown God," converting Dionysius. Today, it's a popular, free-to-visit spot offering panoramic views of the Ancient Agora...

A great vantage point for elevated views of the Acropolis and of course it is free but beware of pickpockets. We watched quite brazen man retrieve a purse from a bag, remove the cash and then put the purse back. Keen not to see a tourist stolen from, we intervened, and the money was returned after a bit of an altercation. Look after your possessions when visiting.

Wow, we visited the site where the Areopagite Council met (also a court for certain cases) and where the Apostle Paul gave his famous sermon in Athens about their unknown God. It is just to the left of the path to the Acropolis and should not be missed. Beautiful view and location. Be aware of your footing as the hill is worn and slick.

Sunset is amazing from here. There are metal stairs to reach the rock. Rocks are at multiple levels so easy to find a spot to enjoy the view or watch the sunset. Rocks are very uneven and some spots are slipp...
Arrive before midday in summer to avoid heat and bring sun protection. In winter, dress in layers as wind on the summit can be cold. Spring and autumn offer mild temperatures and fewer crowds.
