Older children can hunt mythic figures on the facade and then walk 7 minutes to the National Garden, but heavy street traffic, no toilets, and no interactive exhibits reduce its kid appeal.
Note: Academy of Athens is 49% Kids-Friendly. You may want to consider other Kids-Friendly Things to Do in Athens for a more suitable experience.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Kids can spot all statues, finish a scavenger hunt, and play in the nearby park without rushing.
Neoclassical scavenger hunt:
Kids search for symbols like Athena's owl, Medusa head, and Ionic volutes on the facade.
Tip: Print a simple checklist and give kids stickers when they find each motif.
Family photo at the entrance:
Take photos with Athena and Apollo statues in the background.
Tip: Visit at sunrise or late afternoon for soft light and fewer crowds.
National Garden playground:
Let kids run and play in the shaded playground and feed ducks at the pond.
Tip: Bring small snacks to feed ducks and close-toed shoes for the playground.
In summer, stones can get hot; carry water and hats. In winter, dress in layers as the marble facade feels cold in shade.

A very interesting site to see. One of the 3 old building in the center of Athens, there for us to visualize the korinthian style order of the ancient times. Goddess Athéna and Apollo decorate the top of the temple and Socrates along with Plato, are by the stairs by the entrance. Attention to detail, an extraordinary site to see. You will find it next to the University of Athens and the Library.

Beautiful neoclassical building with many great statues of ancient historical figures, starting from Plato and ending with the goddess Athena. It’s not far from the Syntagma Square, so definitely check this one out!
