Excellent museum and a great place to escape the summer heat. Entrance is free. To start with, the building which was designed by a group of architects from tongji university is marvelous. Large spaces and the spiral walkway from the top floor down... It displays Chinese artifacts and cultures. Sections are divided according to materials: Copper, porcelain, cloth and coloring, Jade, metals. Great...

Great museum to visit. Lots of exhibit on display. The main atrium is massive and the skylight is nice. There's food store inside if you get hungry and a uniqlo collab store if you want to buy a souvenir.

This museum was pretty cool! They even had a Uniqlo inside specifically branded for the museum and you could also customize shirts and bags there too. I enjoyed the bronze and jade displays of artifacts and they actually have a really cool gift shop as you walk in. Worth checking out!

After a disappointing visit on Sat to the main museum at Renmin Square, I decided to check out the East Museum the next day. No advanced reservations required for this (except for special kids activities/ workshops). The queue to enter was crazy long but moved considerably fast. Audio guide for ¥20 in Mandarin, ¥40 for other languages. 5 levels, 12 halls of exhibits from Bronze to Pottery, Calli...

No one should subject themselves to the Shanghai Museum in 浦西 after seeing this place. This museum is probably even better 南京博物馆 as the latter is super crowded. The selection, pieces, and architecture is decent throughout. It's a shame they let 乡下人 / peasants in though, because who splits directly on the floor indoors?

When is the best time to visit Shanghai Museum East (Shanghai, China)?

Visit on weekdays in summer to avoid crowds. On rainy days, the indoor galleries are less busy.
