Fine museum, it do requires at least half a day to cover it all, plenty to learn. An English guide should be provided as only some texts has its English version.

While Nanjing Museum is super grand and showcase on historically and politics about China, Hangzhou museum showcase history of Hangzhou, it is not to big to visit probably need an hour, and is less crowded, just need to book free through wechat.

The museum talks about the history of Hangzhou. If you had a Chinese ID, it was free.

The museum is built on the slope of Wushan, with the South Wing located above the South Wing. Quite small actually. It primarily highlights the history and development of Hangzhou over the Wuyue, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qin dynasties. There is no clear direction on the exhibits. The amount of exhibits is surprising sparse. You can give it a miss if you have other things to do.
Visit on weekdays in spring or autumn to avoid crowds. Avoid rainy weekends when locals flock indoors.
