What makes it 71% Kids-Friendly: Kids can rock-hop, spot birds, and picnic cheaply, however uneven paths, slippery shore rocks, and just a basic porta-potty require constant supervision and supplies.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for an easy nature loop, tidepool play, and a beach playground break.
Uplands Park Loop:
Walk the 2.5-mile trail under Garry Oak trees and wildflowers.
Tip: Bring water and shoes; let kids help spot birds with a simple checklist.
Rock hopping at Cattle Point:
Explore tide pools to find small crabs and barnacles.
Tip: Wear rubber boots; keep a safe distance from slippery rocks.
Picnic by the War Memorial:
Use picnic tables near the Oak Bay Cenotaph for lunch with views.
Tip: Pack sandwiches and fruit; arrive early to secure a sunny spot.
Willows Beach playground:
Walk down to the playground and use swings and slides.
Tip: Stop at the beach café for ice cream; supervise kids near the water.

I go here all the time, It is such a beautiful walk with little hills and Moss And dogs everywhere. It gets extremely muddy on parts of the trail (If you enter on the top left trail, it got pretty muddy through December and January until the mud froze a bit) so unless you're wearing boots that go up your calf, you're probably not going to be walking through that area because it's that much mud. So I had time to kill in area and found this park. I wasn't disappointed. Parked at the start of the one way loop. This was good because you can go down to cattle point and enjoy the views. There is a boat launch. Two of them! While no permanent washroom facilities there was two out houses. One didn't have toilet paper. The other part of uplands park is the forest. While there isn't official paths...

Visited day and night time. Both amazing view. A little bit scary at night if you are alone. Guaranteed to be back when it's not too cloudy!

We had a great visit, geocaching and taking photos and looking and listening for birds. Everything was wet as we just missed the rain. This is one of our favourite parks to explore.

Nice little waterfront park just jam-packed with Garry Oak trees. It’s a really nice bit of wilderness in the middle of the city. The park is largely undeveloped and, as such, is brimming local with plant and animal life. It’s a great place for a picnic or a stroll. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and looking for a quiet place to be in nature.
Trails get muddy in fall and winter; use the boardwalk loop to avoid mud. In spring, watch wildflowers bloom. In summer, start early to find shaded picnic spots.
