What makes it 71% Kids-Friendly: Kids revel in exploring tunnels, grass picnics and safe cove paddling with free life jackets, yet parents must supervise cliff edges and accept the lack of playground or snack stand.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: This timeframe lets you picnic, explore bunkers, play at the beach, and enjoy a kayak outing without rushing.
Beach Play in Sheltered Cove:
Let kids splash and float toy boats in the calm, protected waters.
Tip: Bring water shoes and swim diapers; watch children at all times.
Explore WWII-Era Bunkers:
Walk through low doorways, tunnels and gun emplacements from the old battery.
Tip: Use a phone torch or headlamp and warn kids about low ceilings.
Picnic at Buxton Green:
Gather at the grassy lawn with tables overlooking Fleming Bay.
Tip: Pack a blanket and snacks; arrive early to secure a table.
Borrow Kids’ Life Jackets:
Get free life jackets from the Esquimalt Anglers’ Clubhouse before beach play.
Tip: Go early for best size selection and return them when done.
Family Kayaking:
Rent kayaks at the Fleming Beach boat launch for a group paddle.
Tip: Reserve two kayaks in advance, wear life jackets, and check weather.

I really enjoy this park! A short trail along the water, with several benches to sit and rest on. I often see groups of seals playing near the rocks in the water when I come here There are some sign posts explaining the military history at this location. There’s a picnic and grass area (about 12 tables) A small beach And a rock wall that I often see people rock climbing on! (I don’t climb my...

Wonderful place for off leash dog walking! Safe, beautiful views and friendly people! But: 1. FENCES NEED FIXING TO SECURE GIANT SHARP NAIL STICKING OUT IF THEM 2. FENCES NEED PROTECTION NETTING INSTALLED WHERE DOGS DUG PATHS UNDERNEATH 3. PARK NEEDS MORE ENFORCEMENT and people calling out those who do not clean dog poo! Too much dog poo in the grasses!

Lovely walking trails with historical information signs explaining the bunkers and a tribute to the young battalion of soldiers from the late 1800s . We saw the COHO ferry pull out this morning and make its way across the straight to Port Angeles. Lots of good viewing spots for ocean traffic, Birds,Ducks, and you’ll see lots of dog walkers with their dogs off leash.

We love this place for dog walks & sunsets! It's one of my favorite spots to walk my dog because there's always other dogs to play with. Lots of room to run around & play. Fully fenced in (except the parking lot). And the views are really spectacular from here.

The park had lots of pathways leading to the water and along the water. This is a great place to walk your dog and/or enjoy great views of Juan de fuca straight. There are benches along the look outs and even a...
In summer, aim for late morning to warm the beach and calm waters. In spring, trails can be muddy so pack rain jackets. In fall and winter, check wind forecasts and layer up for bluff-top breezes.
