What makes it 70% Kids-Friendly: Horses, buskers, and open paths entertain kids, but there is no playground, no on-site restroom, and street edges require close supervision, so stays are brief.
Why 1–2 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for a short carriage ride, photos at the fountain, and watching street performers without tiring younger children.
Horse-drawn carriage ride:
Climb aboard a 45–90 minute tour departing from the square. Children often sit up front and feel the motion of the horse.
Tip: Book online in advance for family discounts and arrive 10 minutes early to get front-row seats.
Faith Monument fountain photo stop:
Frame a family portrait in front of the neo-Gothic fountain with Château Frontenac in the background.
Tip: Go just after sunrise or late afternoon for softer light and fewer people.
Watch street performers:
Pause to see caricaturists, magicians or musicians performing around the square.
Tip: Carry small bills (CAD 1–5) to tip performers or purchase quick souvenirs.
Terrace snack on Rue Sainte-Anne:
Choose a café terrace just north of the plaza for kid-friendly menus and cold drinks.
Tip: Pick a shaded table and ask for high chairs or booster seats if needed.

THE EXPLORER
We drove up to Canada and spent one day in Montreal and the 4 days in Quebec City. Lots to see here. In QC, we stayed at a small hotel in the old city so easy to walk around the Frontenac and old city area. Near the Frontenac, the Place de’Armes is a beautiful little park with statues and many things to see. One night by Champlain statue, we saw a circus act free. Very nice.

A nice little green area in the heart of the old city. It is very close to the Chateau Frontenac. A tall and beautiful statue with water fountain ⛲️ in the middle of the park is mind blowing during a hot summer. It has a lot of historical and cultural significance in the history of Québec City. Visitors can see the Québec city tourism information centre just in front of the park. If you get extra ...

This park is across from the pretty, cafe-lined Rue St. Anne in Upper Quebec. Two arts venues ran off of it. Rue de Tresor, on which the Old Law Courts building (formerly a monastery) is located, has streets lined with art produced and being sold by local artists. Surrounded by tourist attractions and historic architecture, this tree-filled park and public square is said to be the hub of Old Québ...
Summer brings blooming flower beds and live music; carry sun hats and water. In winter, the fountain is off but carriage rides run with blankets—dress in layers and wear non-slip boots.
