What makes it 62% Kids-Friendly: Open meadows and shallow river entries give children space to explore, yet the park lacks playground equipment and roaming off-leash dogs demand close supervision, reducing suitability.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time for a picnic, short trail walk, water play and a scavenger hunt without rushing kids.
Picnic in Nora Tuckey’s Grove:
Use the fenced picnic area for a meal and let kids run safely in the open field.
Tip: Arrive early to secure a table near the washrooms and shaded trees.
Open Meadow Circuit Trail:
Follow the 1.8 km loop through grass fields and past agility poles.
Tip: Bring comfortable shoes; the trail takes about 30–40 min at a kid-friendly pace.
Shallow Water Wading:
Let kids splash at designated river entry points with calm, shallow water.
Tip: Pack water shoes and towel; supervise closely as banks can be slippery.
Nature Scavenger Hunt:
Challenge kids to spot poplar leaves, cattail stalks or a Boreal Chorus Frog.
Tip: Print a simple checklist before you go and bring a magnifying glass for fun.
Carburn Park Loop via Eric Harvie Bridge:
Older kids can enjoy a 3.7 km loop into Carburn Park to see trout ponds.
Tip: Start at the north lot and follow signs; allow 1.5–2 hours for the full loop.

There are over 160 off-leash dog areas in multi used parks for Calgarians and their dogs to play and enjoy. Among all those, Sue Higgins Park, that lies in 62-hectare natural area at the banks of Bow River in Calgary South East, is the largest. In this fenced park, there are a couple of main areas and a number of smaller fenced areas for hundreds of dogs and their human companions. There is a 4 km...

What a great place to just let your dog roam free and wild! Secure gates ensure your pet is always safe and secure within the confines of the park. I let my Lab Ruby run free here for the first time, she had a blast! She always had a huge smile on her face and the other dogs were well behaved. If it's summer time and it's hot outside, let your dog run in the river and cool off. 😎 A great place to...

My dog and I really like this dog park! It is large and spacious. It has multiple paths to access the Bow river. It has plenty of garbage bins around the park so it is very easy to pick up after your dog and make the appropriate deposit. It is fully fenced in! Cheers all, and dont forget to treat your dog to a walk at Sue Higgins off leash park!!!

Huge park with a good variety of adventure in open fields, small hills, scrub, trees and multiple (4 to be exact) places to swim along the river. All fenced. Only thing that would really improve this park (removing people and other dogs from the equation) would be to add poop bag dispensers. Our girl (@lookandyoumacey) loves it here.
Visit in late spring for wildflowers. In summer, mosquitoes can be heavy—bring repellent. Trails may be icy in winter; wear boots.
