What makes it 72% Kids-Friendly: School-age children can safely run on the grassy ramparts and hunt for gargoyles, yet there are no toilets, exhibits, or railings separating them from the canal or traffic, so supervision is vital.
Why 2-3 hours visit duration is ideal for with kids: Allows time to explore the gate, picnic on the ramparts and visit nearby windmills without rushing.
Walk through the medieval gate:
Pass under the 15th-century towers and spot the carved gargoyles.
Tip: Visit early to enjoy soft light and fewer visitors.
Kids’ treasure hunt:
Create a self-led game to find turrets, drawbridge stones and river boats.
Tip: Print a simple checklist before arrival to guide the hunt.
Picnic on the ramparts:
Use benches and grassy lawns around Kruispoort for snacks and rest.
Tip: Bring a blanket and local cheese from a nearby market.
Play by the windmills:
Let kids run on the grassy slopes north of the gate near historic windmills.
Tip: Look out for passing canal boats visible from the hilltop.

This was lovely. Great seeing old windmills… We had a bite to eat and a drink at an old pub which didn’t take card, so make sure you have cash! Otherwise, you’ll have to walk a fair bit to the nearest cash point!

This is another cool, historical place that is along the outer trail of Bruges. This was our final stop. Cars drive into town through this building so be careful crossing the entrance.

This and the area around it are picture perfect. Not a usual touristy place in Brugge but a must place to go to. Two windmills nearby on top of small hillocks and the river flowing by. It was a bright and sunny day and we thoroughly enjoyed going there. Highly recommended.

Its worth a visit if we all are done with major tourist spots in Brugge city centre.Just a lovely 10-15mt from Brug square will take you to Kruis gate-the city's prominent gate from 1400's . Enjoy the views of windmills/river Dampoort and the lovely city's outer/modern part .
In spring and summer, green lawns are ideal for picnics; in autumn, colorful leaves and fewer crowds add extra fun. In winter, dress warmly as winds can be chilly.
